This article is Part 1 of a three part series.
Stay tuned for: “The role of a Nanny” and “The value of a Nanny”
6:30am: My alarm goes off.
7:00am: Grab my “Nanny Bag” and out the door.
7:30am: Arrive at the “K Family Household”.
Greeted by a bubbly 2 1/2 year old who is still in her PJ’s.
“F” hugs me tight and plants lots of slobbery kisses all over my face.
Mom updates me on the weekends events and the new signs/words that “F” has learned. “Cheese” is now her favorite and I have been instructed that she will ask for it with every opportunity she has.
7:45am: Mom prepares to leave for work.
“F” and I stand at the front door and wave good-bye to mommy.
I wipe back the tears and hold “F” tight and remind her that mommy will return later. Of which, she hugs me (patting my back) and tells me “soon”.
7:47am: “F” tells me that she wants “eggs”. Meaning, It’s time for Breakfast!
(She definitely knows her daily routine now.)
We practice our signs for “Milk”, “Cup”, “Bowl”, “More” and “All done”.
8:30am: Time to get dressed!
“F” practices un-dressing and dressing herself.
I allow her to pick out her own outfit from a choice of two.
She tells me what color she is wearing and what color I am wearing.
After getting dressed, we always brush our teeth and hair!
After having her hair done, she always looks in the mirror and says “Cute!”. (My favorite part.)
9:00am: A little circle time.
We read a story from this weeks theme. “Uncle Donald’s Farm”.
I have “F” point out the animals and tell me what sounds they make.
(Her piggy noises are the best!)
10:00am: We head out for our outing!
“F” and I head to a local petting farm for the day with our Nanny group and their charges.
12:00pm: Lunch time!
1:30pm: Back Home.
A little quiet time is much needed.
“F” and I rock in her room and read another book.
Her favorite is “Pinkalicious”.
2:00pm: Nap time.
“F” sleeps while I do her laundry, clean out the lunch bag, wash & put away dishes from breakfast, prepare dinner for later in the day, update the log book for mommy, and organize the rest of the activities and outings for the month.
4:00pm: Wake up Miss “F”!
We make her bed back up and go into the kitchen for a light snack.
“F” signs “crackers” and “cheese” (her new word!).
4:30pm: At-home Lessons
“F” is currently learning her ABC’s, how to color and how to identify household objects.
She is also learning “On, In, On top, and Under”. We play a game to learn these.
5:00pm: Large Motor Exercises
We typically go outside for this, but today it is raining. So, “F” practices crawling like a baby, creeping like a worm, hopping like a bunny and running FAST and SLOW! We also play “Red Light, Green Light”.
5:30pm: Dinner Time!
“F” sits in her big girl chair and asks for “Milk” by saying the word out loud!
After dinner, she tells me “All Done” and takes her plate, spoon and cup to the sink all by herself. What a big girl!
6:00pm: Mommy is Home!
“F” runs to the door to greet Mommy with BIG Hugs and Kisses.
We show her the fun activities we did today during our educational time and the pictures from our outing at the petting farm. “F” points to all her friends and smiles. She loves her friends!
6:15pm: Nanny goes home.
“F” gives me big hugs and kisses. I remind her that I will see her tomorrow morning. She tells me “Bye-Bye” and I leave; while waving out the window from my car.
I drive home with a smile on my face, because today “I made a difference in the life of a child”.
