In today’s reading, the temple commissioned by God that Solomon should build, was finished. When the priests began to minister and the singers glorified God with one voice; and the they praised God with music of all kinds of instruments, then the presence of God’s glory was like a cloud in the midst of them. It would have looked like a foggy sky – indoors!
11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: 12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) 13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; 14So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
Solomon glorified God for fulfilling the covenant made with His father, David; and dedicated the temple. In keeping with Solomon’s care for the people, He did not ask a blessing for himself only, but asked a covenant between God and whosoever would make a petition at the altar.
Think About It: God declared that Solomon would be a man of peace; and that he would build the temple of the Lord. God chose Solomon to do a mighty work – and Solomon did all that he was commanded to do. What has God chosen you to do?
Jesus said, Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (John 15:16).
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
