When people talk about conventions their first thoughts instantly go to two places: California and Las Vegas. In recent history, these two massive symbols of America have gained more and more fame for being the centers for technology and gaming (as well as comic books) in the entire country (if not the world). While this is all well and good for those people on the West Coast, this leads to a single complaint. Why so far from the East Coast? Why not start a similar group of events here in the great city of Cincinnati? Despite being one of the countries most prominent cities, Cincinnati is regularly overlooked for such events as comic book conventions in favor of Columbus. In the coming months, the newest capcom game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be released. With any luck, it will spur Cincinnati natives into creating a mainstream comic book convention that could revolutionize the industry. To inspire those people who could make this dream a reality, here is a list of the newer Marvel characters in the game.
While not quite as famous as his fellow fighters, Hawkeye is the type of character that comic book fans will adore. Being a regular in the Avengers (and having a cameo in the movie Thor), Hawkeye is most famous for his amazing aim. Using nothing but a bow and arrow, Hawkeye is Marvel’s answer to DC’s Green Arrow (the only difference being their jobs, one a million playboy and the other you’re average American). None the less, Hawkeye (while not as popular as other characters) could still prove to be one of the best characters in the game with his ranged abilities.
Another famous added character from the Marvel universe would be the Ghost Rider himself. Armed with his trusty chain and flaming motorcycle, the Rider bears a terrifying resemblance to Super Smash Bros. Wario (at least in the fact they both ram their opponents with motorcycles with unholy grins). The major difference, however, is that Ghost Rider takes the term bad boy to a new level. While Wario is mostly just a funny fighter, Ghost Rider actively attacks his opponents with mid-range attacks using his famous flaming chain.
For the last installment on this list comes a comic book favorite who has had ties to nearly every other series (many of his enemies, in fact, appeared in earlier versions of the game). Fans of the Marvel universe will be overjoyed to know that Dr. Strange, the ultimate master of magic, will be entering the battlefield to confront his famous enemy Dormammu the Destroyer.
