With warmer weather comes more opportunities to style your outdoor space. Backyard entertaining is a fun way to show off your design talents in the great outdoors. No more worrying about the use of coasters or dirty shoes. Life is more simple outside. We have already covered the essential tips to outdoor decorating (see “Outdoor Decorating 101: Everything You Need to Know”). Now it is time to discuss furnishing options that will make a statement. Here are five outdoor trends that will wow your guests.
1.) Canopy Getaway
If you are going to be outside then you will need coverage from the sun. After all, who wants to be baked and burned? Canopy units are the ideal solution in achieving outdoor bliss. Not only do they provide shade, but also allow for a coastal retreat in your own backyard.
2.) Abstract, Encapsulating Seating
Establish innovation with pieces that will add an organic flair to your backyard. Rather than using a typical lounger why not introduce something new? The beauty of abstract furniture is that it comes in all shapes and sizes. Some provide protection from the sun while others manipulate the traditional structure of outdoor furniture. By choosing unconventional units for your space, rest assured that it will transform your backyard in a modern way.
3.) Illuminating Furnishings
Did you know that your furnishings can also function as a light source? Illuminating accents are now evolving from light cubes to include coffee and side tables. Sure they are not task light sources, but their glow can radiate your backyard in the evening. Most guests will expect hanging lights and lanterns so why not surprise them with something different.
In our opinion, no backyard is complete without a firepit. Firepits help light the evening sky while adding warmth for those cool nights. Use a pit as the main focal point of your exterior or to make sure conversation areas are kept toasty.
5.) Living Wall
Living walls are a great way to introduce verticality to your outdoor space. Rather than just rely on potted plants, why not wow your guests with a modular unit of green? Living walls create a working partnership between gardening and our built environment. Showcase your favorite plant life and blooms in a way that brings fantasy to life.
