With summer just heating up, most are heading to those popular beach destinations. California, Florida, Hawaii and if you are heading overseas Greece and Spain are surely at the top of the list. But if you are tired of doing the same old thing at the same old beaches and are looking to spice things up with a change of scenery, then these 3 not-so-usual beach destinations are for you.
1.The Dead Sea
Located between the West Bank and Jordan is a great beach alternative. The supposed place of the infamous Sodom and Gomorrah, the Dead Sea is the saltiest body of water and is also the lowest location on Earth. You can literally sit down in the sea and float, which can entertain the kids for a while. And do not forget to mud up! You can cover yourself from head to toe in famous Dead Sea mud…it is the perfect spa treatment. And do not worry, if you like it, there is plenty for sale. There are plenty of resorts at location from your average hotel to 5 star chains. It is a great family destination and one you will never forget.
2. The North Sea – Germany
The North Sea is located just above the mainland of Europe and just below the Scandinavian countries. I am sure you are thinking it is way too cold there and it is definitely not what you are looking for. But you could not be more wrong! At the northern edge of Germany there is a town called Bremerhaven. And it is just the place you want to go. Grab a train anywhere in Germany and head north. The beach is lined with fish stands caught straight out of the North Sea…they do not come any fresher. But what makes this beach particularly special is the tide. Since it is so far north, the tides are incredibly strong. So at low tide, miles of the sea bottom are left waterless…and you can go walking in it! It is incredible to walk through the mucky sea floor, spotting crabs and what not. Do not go too far out! When the tide comes back, all of it will be covered and you do not want to be caught too far out. Just leave your shoes at the beach, roll up your pants, and enjoy the muck wandering. Showerheads are located on shore for you to clean up afterward.
3. The Red Sea
Located between Egypt and Jordan, the Red Sea is a fantastic place to enjoy the beach. The coastal town of Aqaba, Jordan is one of the best places to experience the Red Sea. Just outside of the city, the coast is lined with private top-of-the-line resorts and budget friendly hotels offering you access to some of the most beautiful coastline. The water is a perfect shade of blue and you can see right to the bottom. You can lounge on the beach, swim in the sea, go snorkeling or take a boat out. It is up to you! And at night, you can head into town and enjoy good food and great sights!
