If you’re brave enough to brave the tourists in the Old Port during tourist season, you would do well to head down Exchange Street to the new Exchange St. Café, 7 Exchange Street in Portland’s Old Port. “Just Good Italian Food” is their tagline. You can add “For a Great Price!” to that. A slab of Sicilian style pizza is just a buck and a half. They were a cash-only proposition when they first opened a few weeks ago, but now your credit is as good as your cash at the cafe. The menu is broad enough to satisfy you and yours with something (read: chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks) for the kids as well as yourself.
You can pick up a salad for just $3.95, and if you’re really hungry, “beef it up” with steak tips. A Caesar Salad with steak tips is $5.95. Not bad.
If you are looking to satisfy your “Italian-tooth” for lunch, you’ll have many choices here. The sandwich menu includes the “Italian Cold Cut” and “Prosciutto, Motz, Tomato, and Basil” sandwiches, both as reasonably priced as the pizza.
Prefer a hot sub? You have even more choices: Chicken Parmesan, Eggplant, Sausage Pepper and Onion. Italian Appetizers include (in addition to the pizza slabs) Arancini, Panzerotti, Calzone, Meatballs. Are some of these words unfamiliar to you? Wondering what they are? Go to the cafe and find out!
Up for some adventure? Go with the Panini of the Day for just $ 7.95…add a drink for just $1.75 more. They are going to be serving Pasta (and BBQ) Dinners soon as well.
See how far your $20 can go in Portland? Who knew?
